The Legend of The Lady of the Lake of Llyn-y-Fan Fach

During the twelfth century, a widow living at Blaensawdde in Llanddeusant sent her son to watch the cattle as they grazed near Llyn y Fan Fach.  On one particular day, he saw to his astonishment a young woman come out of the lake, and he determined to marry this magical creature.  He courted her with gifts of mortal bread, which first was overdone then under-done for her taste.

Eventually, with his mother's help, he found a recipe the Lady liked, and the next time the young man went to the lake, she emerged with her father, Lord of Llyn y Fan Fach, and her identical sister. The Lord told the youth that if he could identify his lady correctly, then he could marry her and have for a dowry as many animals as she could call in one breath.  The young man was afraid that this task would be impossible as the sisters were so alike, but then one of them moved her foot and he recalled the way the sandals of his chosen one were tied and picked correctly.
