Llangadog is situated in the
heart of the Towy Valley half way between Llandeilo and Llandovery.
A village with a population of approximately 1000 people it is
situated on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park
and is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and pasture with
stunning views towards the Black Mountain. The main business is
agriculture but there are several small and medium sized businesses
here including a builders merchant and an agricultural feed and
supply shop. The beautiful countryside surrounding the village
and its nearness to the Brecon Beacons makes it a draw for tourists.
The village is well served by places to stay, eat and drink.
Capel Gwynfe is a small village
about 3 miles to the south and west of Llangadog with a picturesque
church dating from 1898 and a 19th Century church hall. The area
primarily consists of agricultural lands and its location in the
foothills of the Brecon Beacons make it an ideal starting point
for walkers and cyclists. It was voted Village of the Year for
Carmarthenshire in 2004. In additon to this website, the villagers
of Gwynfe have their own website at http://www.gwynfe.btck.co.uk
Bethlehem is a village to the
south of Llangadog perched on the hillside overlooking the Towy
flood plain. Bethlehem Post Office is renowned for franking cards
at Christmas time and thousands of people each year send their
cards to be stamped with the Bethlehem post mark. Behind the village
is Garn Goch which is a bracken covered hillside which turns a
glorious red in Autumn and Winter and is the site of an Iron Age
Hill fort.
