Crowns

A crown is a covering that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and bringing its appearance into line with the other teeth. It is sometimes called a cap.

It is an ideal solution for teeth that are broken, weakened by decay or a very large filling. It can also be used to protect the remainder of a tooth which has a root filling or to hold or support a bridge or denture firmly in place.

Crowns can be made from various materials including porcelain, porcelain bonded with metal, ceramic or gold alloy.

You will need at least two visits to have a crown fitted. During the first visit, the tooth will be prepared to receive the crown and an impression taken. The shade will also be matched to your existing teeth and a temporary crown fitted. During the second visit, the permanent crown will be fitted.

Properly cared for, a crown should last for many years.
