Abercamlais is a small family run stud of Welsh Mountain Ponies (and a Section D Stallion) bred for temperament, type and conformation, which we run as a hobby (albeit a very expensive one) alongside our busy work and family commitments.

After years of owning and breeding large horses one of Jane's ambitions was to own a Section A stallion. The opportunity came after a chance meeting on the road with John Roberts of Nantlais Stud and the offer to see a little colt born hours before hand - it was love at first sight! Many hours of persuasion (and liquid refreshment) resulted in the purchase our first colt foal “Nantlais Bonheddwr Charlie” the start of our small herd.

After many complaints from Martin about these *** Welsh Mountain Ponies, she came into his life, at times a little difficult, very marish, sometimes standoffish and won his heart - Pwlle Natur. Sadly we lost Natur in October 2007 but have retained her son Nedd, by Charlie, who has done well for us on our adventure of showing our own prefix alongside ponies purchased from Vimpenny, Gleiniant and Rookery studs.

After spending the 2008 season at Pwlle Stud, Trecastle Charlie has now been gelded and sold to start his career under saddle. We wish Mary and Morgan of Llanwrst every success with this special pony, whom in the short time they have owned him, has been Supreme Champion of Show. This is a tribute to Charlie's temperament, as his riders are 3 and 6 years old and we are pleased that he has passed this delightful temperament to his son, Nedd.

We feel privileged to now have Pwlle Ann, not a replacement for Natur, but to carry on the bloodlines of the true hill pony. Ann or Annie as she is known is a Smokey Perlino by Pwlle Pippin we are very grateful to Mr and Mrs Jones and Nerys for allowing us to have Annie as a future brood mare.

A special mention goes to our big boy “Glynglas Bonheddwr” or Merlyn as he is known at home. Brought as a foal after his mother died of bracken poisoning shortly after birth, Martin reared and broke him himself. He is a delight to own, his temperament is second to none, he has hunted, shown with success under saddle (front line of the Royal Welsh the on the two occasions he has been) and produced some lovely foals. He is traditional, as you will see from his pictures standing at 14.3 ¾ hh.

We would like to thank everyone who has helped us, listened to us and advised us.

Diolch yn Fawr.
